Meet some of our Corporate Champions:

The National Dairy Council

NDC announced a partnership with National Orthopaedic Hospital  Cappagh and Cappagh Hospital Foundation in 2017.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity of working with one of the most prestigious centres of clinical excellence on bone health,” Zoe Kavanagh, CEO of the NDC, said. “We look forward to partnering with Cappagh on a number of activities this year, including an educational booklet for patients and staff and a specialist symposium for healthcare professionals in the autumn.”

The NDC highlights the importance of bone health and advises that a balanced diet, which provides adequate nutrients, is essential for our bone health: it says about 99 per cent of the body’s calcium is found in our bones and teeth; and that milk, yogurt and cheese are among the best dietary sources of calcium as it is easily absorbed and used by the body.

Since then, this has grown into an innovative collaborative partnership and has involved the NDC, CHF and NOHC working together across a number of activities to promote and raise awareness on the importance of maintaining a healthy balanced diet for optimum bone health.  These projects have included  CHF and NOHC joining the NDC on their stand at The National Ploughing Championships, an educational booklet for patients and staff, a specialist symposium for healthcare professionals, our  new and innovative ‘Mind Your Bones Campaign’ and  our ‘Cuppa for Cappagh’ campaign.

Mind Your Bones

The National Dairy Council, in association with Cappagh Hospital Foundation, launched in 2018,  an awareness campaign to educate consumers on the importance of bone health through the life stages. The Mind Your Bones campaign covers the area of bone health and common bone conditions such as osteoporosis. Our bone health and strength are determined to a large extent by factors outside of our control such as genetics, gender and age. However, there are factors that we can control such as our diet and physical activity and these are particularly important during childhood and adolescence, when bones are still developing. A balanced diet which provides ‘bone-friendly’ nutrients such as calcium, phosphorus, protein, vitamin D, zinc and magnesium is important. Cappagh Hospital Foundation supports the great work carried out at  the National Orthopaedic Hospital Cappagh, Ireland’s major centre for elective orthopaedic surgery.

National Orthopaedic Hospita
